SPIRIT OF GOD

The Spirit of God, also known as the Holy Spirit, is a central concept in the Bible and is referred to throughout both the Old and New Testaments. Here are some of the significant roles and attributes of the Spirit of God in the Bible:

Creator: In the beginning of the Bible, the Spirit of God is described as hovering over the waters of the earth, and it is through the Spirit's work that God creates the world.

Guide and Comforter: In the New Testament, Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort his followers after he left the earth. The Spirit is said to give believers wisdom and discernment, and to comfort and strengthen them in times of trouble.

Source of Spiritual Gifts: The Spirit of God is also the source of spiritual gifts, such as speaking in tongues, prophesying, and healing, which are described in the New Testament.

Convictor of Sin: The Spirit of God is said to convict people of their sin and draw them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

Unifier of Believers: The Spirit of God is often depicted as the unifying force that brings together believers from different backgrounds and cultures.

Seal of Salvation: In the New Testament, the Spirit of God is described as the seal of salvation, indicating that those who have received the Spirit have been adopted into God's family and are assured of their eternal destiny.

Overall, the Spirit of God plays a significant role in the Bible, serving as the creative force behind the world, the guide and comforter of believers, the source of spiritual gifts, the convictor of sin, the unifier of believers, and the seal of salvation.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

Throughout the Old Testament, the people referred to their relationship with God as YHVH [Hebrew Names of God, YHVH, YHWH, Jehovah, Adonai, Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh] my Elohim. The word Elohim (God) differentiates all other gods from the Most Supreme God whose name in Hebrew is YHVH. He is the one and only YHVH Elohim. The standard interpretation and printing is LORD for the Hebrew four letter (tetragrammaton) YHVH.

YHVH is the Hebrew personal name of Elohim, the Most Supreme and Holy God. Yeshua (Jesus) is the son of the most Supreme and Holy God and is also Elohim after his Father YHVH Elohim. There is only one YHVH Supreme and Holy Elohim whose eyes of his Spirit runs to and fro throughout the world.

The best way to understand what we mean by our profession of faith in the Holy Spirit is to compare it with our faith in the Son of God. In God there is intellect and will, corresponding to thinking and loving in human beings. Scripture identifies the mind of God with the Word of God, as St. John tells us: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). “So, just as the Word of God is the Son of God, so the Love of God is the Holy Spirit” (St. Thomas Aquinas. Exposition of the Apostles’ Creed, Article 8).

The Holy Spirit: Teacher of Prayer

The Holy Spirit is the great teacher of prayer. At Pentecost, according to the Acts of the Apostles, the Holy Spirit gathered the first followers of Jesus together in prayer. The Spirit taught them to remember Jesus, to recall the Jewish Scriptures, to break the bread of the Eucharist, to recognize a new creation in the waters of baptism. "The Spirit helps us in our weakness," St.Paul says, "for we do not know how to pray as we ought..." (Romans 8, 26)

We've learned that God created the heavens and the earth in the beginning. We've seen that the earth was formless and empty and darkness was over the surface of the deep. "...and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." Who is this Spirit of God? Is it a piece of God? Is it another God? Is it an "it"? A He? A She? We turn to the Hebrew language for answers.

Throughout the Bible, the Holy Spirit is described as having several personal characteristics. While it is true Scripture sometimes personifies things (e.g., "Wisdom" in the Proverbs), this is not the case with the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit is not a thing—He is not a force or power like electricity, as some teach—neither is He merely the power of God, or God's mind, as other anti-trinitarians assert. Rather, the Biblical record clearly shows the Holy Spirit is a Person:
